Individual Licensing Information

 
 

I have never had a license

If you have never held a license to practice as a cosmetologist, esthetician, or manicurist, you must meet the following requirements and apply for a license:

Cosmetologist:
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Have a satisfactorily completed 10th grade from an approved high school
  • 1500 hours in an approved cosmetology school cosmetologist curriculum
  • Passage of the required State Board examinations
  • Payment of proper fees
Esthetician
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Have a satisfactorily completed 10th grade from an approved high school
  • 750 hours in an approved cosmetology school cosmetologist curriculum
  • Passage of the required State Board examinations
  • Payment of proper fees
Manicurist
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Have a satisfactorily completed 10th grade from an approved high school
  • 500 hours in an approved cosmetology school cosmetologist curriculum
  • Passage of the required State Board examinations
  • Payment of proper fees
 

I used to have a Louisiana license, but my license is expired

If your license has been expired for less than 3 years (36 months) you must subit a copy of your license or the renewal portion along with the proper fee.
Expired 1 year $50.00 $25.00 license fee + $25.00 late fee
Expired 2 years $100.00 $25.00 license fee + $25.00 late fee
If your license has been expired for more than 3 years (36 months), you must take a restoration exam prior to restoring your license.  Please contact the board office at (225) 756-3404 ext 214 for appropriate fee and exam information.

Louisiana recognizes the cosmetology esthetician and manicurist licenses of all other states.  Please complete a reciprocity application along with the required information and fees.
